Activity Holidays for Dogs

Centre Barks is not just a boarding kennels, but country holiday centre for dogs; we make the most of our environment to let our guests enjoy our rural location!

The centre is set on our family farm, where we grow wheat on much of 500 acres of land, our guests will have chance to explore the farm and surroundings - our walks take in fields and pastures, woodlands and a network of soft tracks for mud-free winter exercise.

Our  first Bernese Mountain Dog, Macy, was a Pets as Therapy Dog, visiting hospice patients in the North East.  The value of this work cannot be under estimated, offering a wonderful medium of communication between the dog and human.  Please click the icon to learn more about PAT animals and their work.

Our residents can also get to know our Aberdeen Angus cows, and our rare breed White Park Cattle and Ryeland sheep, as well as hens, cockerels, geese, horses and Rita the Tamworth pig!

Our pets include Papa Lazarou, our house cat, and Surprise, the farm cat who likes to stride along the walls once all the guests are safely in their rooms!

Guests will certainly meet our dogs, Bertie and Lola during their stay...

Centre Barks is a family business, our guests are cared for by Kath & John Rowland - our aim is to get to know your dog well, and for them to get to know us!  Our son and daughter help out with walks and playtimes too, giving our guests a family experience.

We have a lifetime’s experience of animal care, having been home to a large Holstein dairy herd until 2009; now we have a mainly arable farm, but still have room for cattle, sheep, horses, geese, a pig and our family pets......
